This weekend attention will turn to the ladies club championship finals. A double header at Brewster Park on Sunday afternoon will see Devenish line out against Enniskillen in the Intermediate final, followed by the Senior Championship decider between Lisnaskea and Brookeborough. Then on Sunday evening, Irvinestown will play host to the Junior Championship final between Tempo and Erne Gaels in what will be a busy day of football.
Ladies Senior Championship Final
Lisnaskea v Brookeborough
Brewster Park
For Brookeborough, Sunday will see them compete in their first senior final since they were founded ten years ago. Whilst they have enjoyed success at Junior level and most notably in 2008 when they landed the Intermediate crown, this is their first attempt at the senior title. After a semi final victory over Newtownbutler confidence will certainly be high amongst this group of players.
The Heber McMahons boast a number of senior and underage county players. The Moane sisters will be key to unlocking the Lisnaskea defence. Aisling scored 0-04 in the semi-final against Newtown and partnered by Aileen in midfield they have the ability to cause damage.
Sarah Stewart in nets has shown great form this year and her shot stopping ability has been vital as her side has progressed.
Twin sisters Naoimi and Nuala McManus both had fine performances the last day out. Up front Sarah Teague will lead the Brookeborough scoring threat but they will need a solid performance from their defence if they’re going to hold out an experienced and capable Lisnaskea team.
The Emmett’s have a number of seasoned campaigners in their ranks. Current county players Sharon and Caroline Little and goalkeeper Donna Gilroy will be aiming to make amends for the last two years when they lost out in the final to Newtown. Lisnaskea can also call on the services of former county players Tara Hughes Little, Shauna and Claire Woods as well as Louise Slevin.
Lisnaskea are no strangers to victory though. In 2006, as Intermediate Champions they went on to claim the Ulster Club crown. Now, they will look to the 2010 final as the perfect opportunity to finally claim the senior title that has eluded them for the last two years.
In their semi-final victory over Kinawley Sharon Little kicked 1-07. But it was a terrific all round team performance. The experienced duo of Aine Martin and Sherrie Slevin are at the heart of the Lisnaskea defence.
Dearbhla Murphy in the half back line has attracted the watchful eye of the Fermanagh Management after numerous impressive displays for her club.
The final is certainly set up to be a hugely contested affair. Whether the experience and scoring power of Lisnaskea will outweigh the youthful and fearless Brookeborough team, remains to be seen.
Ladies Intermediate
Championship Final
Devenish v Enniskillen
Brewster Park
Sunday, 1pm
In the curtain raiser to the Senior final Devenish and Enniskillen will battle it out for the Intermediate title. Devenish have already claimed the scalp of St Patrick’s Donagh with a comprehensive victory over the team many had tipped to win this year.
Shauna Hamilton hit a massive 0-07 and her county team mate Aisling Maguire bagged an impressive 1-02.
Devenish have a number of key players that can cause problems for the Gaels. Teresa Feeley in the centre of the field was very influential in the semi as was team Captain Ciara McGuinness in the heart of the Garrison defence.
Up front Louise Rasdale and Aisling O’Brien can pick off the scores and will present a difficult task for the Enniskillen back line.
Enniskillen have had an easier route to the final after they were drawn against Belcoo in the semi. However, Belcoo’s withdrawal from the competition meant Enniskillen went straight into this weekend’s decider.
The Gaels won the Junior championship in 2009 and have a number of senior county players in their side, namely, Eimear Keenan, Roisin Carron and Lynne McFrederick.
The latter is certainly the main target up front and is ably assisted by Shauna Murphy. These two players could certainly give Bernie Maguire in the Devenish nets a busy afternoon.
Ladies Junior Championship Final
Tempo v Erne Gaels
Irvinestown
Sunday, 5.30pm
Tempo saw off Derrygonnelly and Kinawley B to earn their place in this weekend’s final whilst Erne Gaels defeated Brookeborough B to get here.
This is the second successive year that Tempo have made it to the final and will hope to put last year’s defeat to Enniskillen behind them with a win this weekend.
Teresa McGirr has been all important in Tempo’s success thus far. In the quarter final meeting against the Harps she picked off points before bagging a hat trick of goals against Kinawley B in the semi.
Tempo have a number of experienced players with the likes of Carmel McGirr and Eimear Campbell in their side. This blend of experience and youth with players like Roisin McCusker and Niamh Cox may just be enough to see Tempo over the line.
The Belleek ladies have some quality players in their ranks too though. Sinead Johnson and Claire Gallagher could well help them to the first Junior title in the clubs history.
