Fermanagh U21 hurlers will go to Pearse Stadium, Galway in search of an All Ireland final spot on Saturday when they take on Kerry in the All Ireland U21 B Championship semi-final.
Fermanagh have produced some good performances to clinch the Ulster title with wins coming over Monaghan and a highly fancied Donegal outfit, and manager Rory O’Donnell is adamant that his side will not be travelling to Galway to make up the numbers.
O’Donnell is only too aware that Kerry will be a quality side but he has great belief in his own side.
“These boys can’t wait to get going on Saturday. The one thing I have been hammering into them is that they cannot afford to stand off Kerry for the first ten or 15 minutes and admire them as they are the type of team who will run away with it. There is no point realising that they are as good as Kerry with 15 minutes to go when it is all over. We know Kerry are going to be good, they have a sprinkling of players in the senior squad and they got promoted to Division Two. However, I am confident that our boys will put in a great performance. There is no fear in these boys and we’re going down there to give it a good rattle. We want to win the game,” commented O’Donnell.
This group of players have come up through the Development squads and that work is paying off now for Fermanagh.
Shea Curran has been a rock at full back for Fermanagh while others such as Eoin Markey and Francie McBroen are important players for O’Donnell.
There is also a number of side who have gathered a lot of experience with the Fermanagh senior side in recent years including Ryan Bogue, John Duffy and JP McGarry although O’Donnell will know that he needs his whole side to perform if they are to get past this huge challenge.
