Roslea were to make it seven games without defeat as they outclassed a Devenish side that have now slipped into the bottom two of the league table for the first time this season.

The win keeps Roslea top of the Division One table and defender Niall Cassidy knows that it was the perfect way for the Shamrocks to enter the championship as they begin the defence of their title this Sunday.

“We’re very happy with the win, especially in the week leading up to the championship. Devenish took a while to get going and it’s hard to know what to take from the game. We worked well as a unit in the first half but we are disappointed for our showing in the second half,” he said.

Devenish joint manager Bart O’Brien accepts his side came off second best on the day and is aware that they will have to improve ahead of this Saturday evening’s championship clash against Tempo.

“Roslea are a superb side and it’s going to take a special team to beat them. We are disappointed surely after a disappointing opening 30 minutes from us. We know we are going to have to improve enormously for this Saturday evening against Tempo otherwise we are in serious trouble.” The Roslea side were to get to half time leading 1-09 to 0-03 and the second half was more or less a case of going through the motions. Roslea’s Seamus Quigley kicked the opening three points of the game before Shane Lynch made it 0-04 to 0-00 after eight minutes.

John O’Flanagan finally got Devenish on the scoreboard with a well taken effort but Roslea’s intensity and exciting brand of possession seen them then score the next five points of the game. Brendan Sherlock, Peter Lynch, Seamus Quigley, Niall Cosgrove and Martin Renfrew all added scores to the home side as Roslea pulled 0-09 to 0-01 clear.

Chris O’Brien and Jason Love started a mini Devenish revival with points but the game was practically over as a contest in the 29th minute when a long ball played in by Martin Renfrew found Seamus Quigley who buried his shot past Thomas Treacy to make it 1-09 to 0-03 at half time.

The second half saw a more open game of football and both teams surprisingly added points at ease.

Shane Lynch, who was outstanding, kicked a great point before Jason Love replied for the visitors to leave nine between them.

Quigley then added a free while Devenish’s response came from JJ O’Brien and John O’Flanagan as the away side tried in vain to save the game.

Substitute Dermot Reilly split the posts from the right before two frees from John O’Flanagan and Chris O’Brien left it 1-13 to 0-09.

Seamus Quigley was to finish the scoring with a well taken left footed goal into the bottom corner to give him a personal tally of 2-5 as Roslea move ominously into the business end of the season.
