Roslea completed a marvellous year at adult level this season as their junior side followed in the footsteps of their senior outfit by completing a league and championship double by defeating St. Pat’s in the Erne Cup Division One final at Brewster Park on Sunday.

Roslea’s Ruairi McGuinness was to be the star of the show as his six minute first half hat-trick was to put Roslea clear of a Donagh side who for long stretches were outplayed by a determined and more powerful Roslea team.

Roslea came into the game having lost just two league games from 18 and started in determined fashion with Niall Beggan collecting a Aaron Mulligan 45 and pointed from 30 yards to put his side a point ahead.

It was all Roslea in the opening half and after hitting two wides they had James McMahon to thank for a fantastic block before the ball was worked up the field for Gregory Connolly to fire over.

Beggan and McGuinness then scored two fine points and in the 20th minute Roslea netted their opening goal as McGuinness buried his shot to the net to make it 1-04 to 0-00.

And matters got even worse for St. Pat’s 40 seconds later as McGuinness bagged his second goal following good work by Danny Mohan and James Boyle.

Roslea’s Aaron Mulligan was to sweep over a fine point before Donagh’s Shane O’Neill accounted for his side’s first score. That man McGuinness though hit back for the Shamrocks as he completed his hat-trick, collecting a long diagonal ball from Connolly before planting to the net to make it 3-05 to 0-01.

To be fair to Donagh they did manage to rattle over the final three points of the half through Brian McDermott (2) and Jamie Treacy but at the break it was Roslea who were in command, leading 3-05 to 0-04.

McDermott, who showed flashes of his quality during the contest, pointed right at the start of the second half to give the Donagh support hope, but three McGuinness points in a row gave Roslea a 3-08 to 0-05 lead.

Roslea replaced Shane Lynch with Bartek Sczubert and immediately Sczubert showed his potential by taking the ball past three Donagh defenders before setting up corner back James McMahon for a fisted score as the Roslea machine showed no signs of slowing up.

James Boyle then pointed in the 48th minute while a Donagh response came from Jamie Treacy after good work by Eugene Cadden to make it 3-11 to 0-06.

Roslea then emptied the entire sub bench as the likes of James McMahon were rested for further tests, while Donagh’s Shane McDermott picked up a double yellow card as the game petered out.

Substitute Ciaran Cassidy then jinxed his way through for a score for Roslea with Kevin Curran answering from a free for St. Pat’s after Niall McMahon was black carded, the Shamrocks unable to replace him as they had already used all their substitutes.

It was Roslea who rounded off the scoring as Beggan knocked over to leave the winners 14 points clear at the finish, and deserving double champions.
