Of the four senior football championship quarter finals this is the game that people are calling with most certainty. Roslea, four times champions in five season take on Derrylin, sitting mid table in division two and in the senior championship after winning last year’s intermediate championship.

Derrylin boss, Mickey Cadden is under no illusions as to the task that lies ahead; “We know we are massive underdogs that goes without saying but we are not going in with any fear. We will be working on things to hopefully try and counteract their strengths and to be honest the players are really up for it. It is a massive thing for Derrylin to play in the senior championship and we intend to work hard and enjoy it.” They are coming up against a Roslea side who are laced with experience although they have lost James Sherry and Kevin Cosgrove from the team that has dominated Fermanagh over the past five seasons. They still have a wealth of talent though. James McMahon continues to improve and was a stand out player for Fermanagh this year as was Niall Cassidy and Sean Quigley. Quigley of course is the best forward in the county and add to the mix the mercurial talent of his older brother Seamus and they have a real formidable look to their team.

Roslea boss Sean Bradley accepts that they will be favourites for this game but he says that Derrylin are not a side to be treated lightly; “They nearly beat Teemore and Teemore gave Roslea a lot of problems in the championship last year and they beat Maguresbridge last year in the championship and we needed a somewhat fortunate goal to beat Maguiresbridge this year in the league, he said.

“We just want to play our game and do the right things and hopeful come out on the right side of the result.” If Derrylin are to cause an upset they will have to counter the threat of the two Quigleys in the full forward line and perhaps force Roslea to bring one of them out to the middle of the field. Mark Murphy in midfield for Derrylin will be vital in that respect and if he can dominate proceedings then there be nervous moments for Roslea. Elsewhere in the Derrylin line up there is real talent in Barry Murray and Donal McAvinue in the forward line and Louios Leonard, Kevin McCusker and Conor Lunny in defence.
