Derrygonnelly and Ederney will face off again tomorrow (Friday) night in Garrison as they battle it out for the last spot in the semi-final line up for the senior championships.

The sides could not be separated last Sunday at Brewster Park as Ederney rattled over three late points to secure a draw and both managers are happy to have a second bite at the cherry.

Ederney manager Mark Henry admits he is relieved to still be in the championship and he is hoping that his side can make the most of their second chance.

“We were relieved at the final whistle given the situation we found ourselves in with five minutes to go and we’re delighted to get a second bite at it,” he commented.

Henry was pleased with the character shown by his side to stay in touch when Derrygonnelly looked as if they were going to pull clear at one stage in the second half, and he also had words of praise for goalkeeper Enda Ferris.

“I thought for a period in the second half Derrygonnelly had got a grip on it and they looked like they were going to pull away from us. Enda though made a crucial save during the spell and if that had gone in it would have been hard to see us come back. In fairness to the boys though they kept plugging away and if you do that then you give yourself a chance.” He added: “We’re looking forward now to Friday night and we hope we can make the most of our second opportunity.” Derrygonnnelly manager Martin Greene had expected a tough test prior to the game and that’s exactly what his side got.

“It was very tough game which is what we expected it to be. I never thought that we were in control even when we were three points up as Ederney are a good side and we knew they would come back at us. The game had been swinging one way and then the other throughout and we always expected Ederney to come back into it. In the end we were glad to get another chance as we were probably hanging on a bit,” he said.

And Greene is aware that his side will need to be better on Friday night if they are to seal their place in the semi-finals with Devenish awaiting the winners.

“We will have to improve on our performance and hopefully we will be able to do that,” he concluded.
