The Castle Hume Irish Fourball Team have claimed the first silverware of the year for the Club with a superb performance in the final of the Ulster Section of the Irish Fourball competition.
With this competition now promoted to an All Ireland affair, Castle Hume have had to endure five difficult rounds of golf to see off some very difficult opposition. With the Ulster final opponents being Rossmore Golf Club, it was always going to be a very tight encounter between two teams who have shown themselves to be the best in Ulster this year.
With a neutral Lisburn venue chosen for the match, both teams were very evenly matched both on paper and through the first nine holes of the play-off with excellent below par scoring on both sides.
As the first match came onto the 18th green, Captain Malcolm Branley secured a great first win for the Castle Hume. This was followed up by a superb 3 and 2 win in the second match to leave Castle Hume just needing one more point for victory.
As the third match reached the 18th Tee, a half on the last was all that was needed to secure victory. Mark Masterson and Steven Reid were on hand to bring home the winning point with a super performance. As the remaining two matches were called in, Castle Hume had completed a memorable victory.
The Castle Hume Team of Malcolm Branley, Damian Love, Paul Holder, Joe Woods, Steven Reid, Mark Masterson, Fergal Lunny, Ryan Bell, Ryan Corrigan and Fred Cowan will now go forwards to represent Ulster in the All Ireland Final to be played at Millicent Golf Club, County Kildaire on September 16 and 17. Congratulations to Castle Hume on being the first Ulster Winners in this new format .
