Enniskillen Golf Club; O"Dohertys Black Bacon Open

Young Niall McFarland stormed to a stunning win in the O"Dohertys Black Bacon open stableford with 44 points. There seven handicapper didn"t hang about as he opened up with a brace of pars on the first and second followed by a brace of birdies on the firey third and fourth holes. At two under par he let a few shots slip away but pulled them back on the ninth and 11th. On a day when McFarland kept a six off his card, everytime he made a bogey he quickly made amends with a birdie.

At level par after 17 holes he knocked in his sixth birdie of the day on the final hole for a superb one under gross 70. The birdie on the 18th proved crucial he just pushed Gerry Hogg into the runner up spot by virtue of a better finish over the last three holes.

Hogg"s 44 points was similar to McFarland"s in that both golfers had 23 points on the outward nine. On the homeward nine Hogg had a disappointing 5,5,5,5 finish to his round. In third place with another great score was Alan Foster. Foster must have thought it was going to be his day when he posted 43 points, especially considering he amassed 23 of them over the back nine.

The gross prize was claimed by Chris Noble with 35 gross points. With his tee shot up the road at the first, it looked as though Noble would be going through the motions but the gritty competitor got his act together and completed his round with 14 pars, two birdies and a single bogey.

Treatment Room Mixed Scramble

The three person mixed scramble was won by Dee Colville, Hugh Wylie and Alan Foster. With an impressive display of golfing prowess, the threesome recorded a superb nett 54.6 which included four birdies and a solitary dropped shot on the fifth. The second placed team of Dave McKecknie, Rosemary Wylie and big hitting John Elliott thought they had it in the bag with their nett 56. They notched up seven birdies with no dropped shots, With birdies at all the par fives, Rosemary and co. scored no worse than a four on any hole. With another good score of 57.4, third place went to Patsy McCaffrey, Jim Lucy and Audrey Williamson. The first nine winners were Ken 'that"s them out of the reckoning' Bownes, Liam Williamson and Kate O"Kane, and the second nine went to Thomas McCaffrey, Barbara Thompson and Scott Hamilton.

Yellowtom.com Open

On a day dominated by the Fosters, the 'in form' Alan Foster carded 41 points to win the Yellowtom.com Open. Foster kept things tight around the top nine where he racked up 22 points. It was a different story on the back nine where he ran up eight bogeys and only the one par to come home with 19 points. He beat his son Luke into second place by a point. Playing off a 17 handicap, Luke Foster had 18 points around the top nine followed up with a useful 22 around the back nine. His back nine was good enough to push Stephen Gault into third spot. Gault will rue the short putt he missed on the 18th green which had he holed would have won the competition.

With another great score and a personal best of 39 points, Audrey Williamson notched up her second win of the year to take the honours in the ladies section.

Robert Kennedy took the first nine with 22 points and Terry Stevenson the back nine with 20 points. Chris Noble got the longest drive with another long fairway splitter up the 18th and Terry Stevenson picked up his second closest to the pin in two weeks when he knocked into two feet on the sixth.

EGGS and LEGS

Ivan Ryan, Brendan Drugan and Maurice Lawton had a narrow victory in the team scramble with a nett 25. They just pipped the runners up, Tommy Duffy, Pat Concannon and John Patterson on a coutback. Linda McDowell"s 23 points was more than enough to take the spoils in the LEGS. Her closest challenger was Josephine Condon with 18 points.
