Mary sees off local challenge

On Saturday the re-scheduled Tempo Glass sponsored ladies open took place at Enniskillen Golf Club.

57 ladies competed with visitors from Rosses Point, Clones, Belvoir Park, Banbridge, Castle Hume and Blacklion. The weather was kind particularly for the early starters.

Lady Captain Margaret thanked all those who participated and paid particular thanks to our sponsors Tempo Glass for their generosity which was evident by the vast array of prizes on offer. The course was in brilliant condition and the scores reflected this.

The longest drive was won by Anne Reihill on the ninth hole, Irene Rooney from Clones was nearest the pin on the 11th and Ina Robinson won the back nine with 20 points while Lady President Martina McCaffrey won the front nine with 21 points.

The 29-36 section was won by Rita McKechnie with 37 points with Audrey Williamson coming second also with 37 points. The 19-28 section was won with a tremendous score of 40 points by Rene Johnson who was also rewarded with a handicap reduction for her efforts. Dympna Slowey came second with 36 points.

The 0-18 section was won by Moira Parfitt with 34 points while Eileen Cochrane continued her good form to claim second place with 33 points. Mags McCaffrey claimed the gross prize with 37 points. Orla Foster showed her Lady Captain"s day win wasn"t a flash in the pan by claiming the runner-up prize with a great 41 points. Her handicap is currently in freefall. The overall winner, also with 41 points, was Mary Longmore from Banbridge. Mary played a wonderful round of golf and was thrilled to accept the lovely gas barbecue as her prize.

Last Tuesday, the July Monthly medal took place. Eileen Cochrane came first with a nett 71. Eileen"s handicap is back to 13 as a result of her fine round. Rene Johnston came second with a nett 72. Lady Captain Margaret Morrison added another six points to her Golfer of the Year tally by coming third with a nett 74. This Friday there is a treasure hunt and barbeque taking place. A fun night of entertainment is promised.
