Lady President Martina McCaffrey held her President's Day at Enniskillen Golf Club on Friday. The weather resembled what we expect to see in November rather than July with strong winds and plenty of liquid sunshine. There were tales of flying tees and trolleys from those who managed to brave the elements. The ladies were certainly ready for their beautiful meal having managed to dry off sufficiently.
Lady President Martina thanked all who had helped her in any way during her two year tenure. She thanked her family for the wonderful support they gave her and Lady Captain Margaret Morrison for being a great friend. Martina then passed over to Match Secretary Rita to announce the winners.
Christie Shannon was the winner of the EGGS competition. Mr President Colin Greaves won the men's three club competition with 19 points. Rosemary Wylie's 19 points was enough to win the LEGS prize. Vera Mc Brien won the nine hole competition with 17 points. The two nearest the pin winners were Doreen Cathcart and Lady Captain Margaret Morrison on the 11th and 14th holes respectively. Rene Johnston won the front nine prize with 17 points. Rita McKechnie waited until the back nine to play some golf and posted a superb 23 points to claim that prize. Mags McCaffrey also started to play better golf on the back nine to pip Eileen Cochrane to the gross prize. Third place overall went to Marina Brownlee with 33 points. Irene Bownes scored a superb 37 points to claim second place. The winner on countback of the Lady Presidents prize was Barbara Thompson. Barbara played a beautiful round of golf consisting of new fewer than six pars. She was absolutely delighted with her win and put it down to less chat and more golf on the course. Barbara complemented the greens convenor on the condition of the course despite the poor weather conditions.
Enniskillen Golf club is very privileged to have had Martina as our Lady President for two years. She has been extremely hard working and has been a great ambassador for the club.
Last Tuesday an 18 hole club competition took place. Doreen Cathcart came first with 36 points.
Congratulations to Paula O'Hara who had a great win at the Slieve Russell ladies open last week. Despite it only being her third round of golf this year, she managed to stave off the competition to claim the top prize. She will be looking very dapper when we see her next on the course. Congratulations also to Deirdre McSorley who won the front nine and Eileen Cochrane who got nearest the pin. This week the club is holding an open club classic. Ladies Day is on Friday and you are encouraged to support this fundraising venture. The format is a team of four with two scores counting on each hole. Tee times can be booked by contacting the club.
