The Classic

The formidable combination of Castle Hume golfers Barry McCauley, Dara McManus, Nigel O'Connor and Matt Doran shot a superb 97 points to take the honours in the Enniskillen Golf Club Classic and claim the coveted top prize of a fourball around the new Faldo course. The team got off to a dream start when McManus and O'Connor opened up with birdies on the par four "Road Hole".

After the first nine they had accumulated 48 points. In particular, anchor man McManus played tremendous golf as he racked up a rake of pars around the 18 holes. The Castle Hume lads went one better on the back nine as they notched up 49 points for a comfortable two point victory.

Second spot went to Enniskillen golfers Andrew Davidson, Kevin Slowey, Paul Sheridan and Des Keogh with 95 points. After an opening seven pointer, they lowlight of their round was the second hole where they could only muster a measly two points thanks to Slowey's par five. But this appeared to be the catalyst they needed as they buckled down to the task in hand and dropped no more shots to par over the remaining 16 holes.

The final place on the podium went to another visiting team. Joe Curren, Coll Curren, Paul Foly and Don Curren amassed 94 points.

Fourth place was claimed by Enniskillen golfers Chris Noble, Aaron Brimston, Steven Quinn and Glen Mowat with 93 points by virtue of a better last six holes over Gary Thompson, Ian Lyttle, Davy Walker and Gary Smyth. Everything was going to plan with Thompson's team until the straightforward 14th hole where Lyttle was the only player to finish the hole and record two points and all but scupper any chance they had of a fourball at Lough Erne

Tom Sheridan Memorial

Des Keogh reaffirmed his intent to take the "golfer of the year" title when he bagged his fourth win of the year with an excellent score of 43 points in the Tom Sheridan Memorial. Twelve handicapper Keogh put in another flawless display as he cruised round the Castlecoole course in 76 shots. On a day when he could do little wrong he knocked in birdies on the 11th and 13th holes. With a similar score, Niall McFarland took another step closer to category one status as he claimed the runner up spot. McFarland rode his luck on a few holes but nevertheless he kept his composure as he went round in one under par 70 shots. Eugene Donohoe finished a distant third with 39 points while Chris Noble took another gross prize with a round of one over par 72.

Steven Craig won the battle of the big hitters with the longest drive up the 18th and competition winner Des Keogh got nearest the pin on the 11th when he pitched it in to a couple of feet.

The best of the ladies on the day was Jill Hamilton with 38 points. Jill beat Margaret Morrison into second place by a point.

"Eggs & Legs"

The "Eggs" played in the "classic" on August 5. In a three man scramble format the winners were Michael Lawton, Seamus Magee and Chris Redman with nett 26.1. Runners up were Pat Concannon, Billy Crooke and Pat Monaghan with a nett 26.8, narrowly beating the third place team of George Miller John Patterson and George Young.

Kathleen Lavin won another "Legs" on August 6 with 19 points. One point behind Kathleen was Sandra Robinson with Hazel Hogg in third spot with 17 points.
