President's Prize at Fintona
As most of know the golfing conditions were atrocious last Friday afternoon for those competing for Jim Robertson's President's prize in Fintona. The course was barely playable but the 40 brave souls kept going and all but two returned cards. The best score on Friday was 38 points but the Saturday players had improving conditions and indeed quite pleasant at times in the afternoon.
However, the scoring was never going to be wonderful with the greens much faster than usual and tough pin positions on seven, eight and nine in particular. Davy Abraham who put the pins there managed 39 points but this score was bettered by the top three winners. Leo Mc Bride had 40, Fran McAtee had 40 but the man winning the President's Prize for 2009 was Bernard Donnelly with 42 points. Ryan Cunningham won the gross prize again with a one over par score of 73 on the Friday. The ladies played on Tuesday and Maggie Mullan won with 35, one ahead of Dympna Franey. The juveniles competed on the previous Monday with Ben Peace winning the U14 handicap section and Marius Monaghan taking the honours in the over 14 section.
