McIlroy and McDowell seeking World Cup success
Twenty-eight nations travel to China this week for the 56th staging of the World Cup of Golf.
This two-man team event is back on the international calendar after a two-year break, with Italian brothers Francesco and Eduardo Molinari defending the title they won at Mission Hills 2009.
Since then, golf has become an Olympic sport which subsequently led to the World Cup being re-scheduled as a biennial event.
And this week's field is typically wide-ranging when it comes to experience and ability, with world No.2 Rory McIlroy taking part alongside a number of players not even ranked inside the top 1,000.
The Molinari's will be joined by two other sets of brothers, with Camilo and Manuel Villegas representing Colombia while Ricardo and Hugo Santos are teaming up for Portugal.
The format is unchanged with two series of foursomes and two sets of fourballs.
Ireland go into the tournament as leading contenders but with some formidable pairings they may not have it all their own way,
However both McIlroy and McDowell know each other's game really well and their bond on and off the course makes them a strong force.
However a major threat should come from the South African team of Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen, both these players have the class to compete at the very top for many years to come.
Titleist Launches New Vokey SM4 Wedges
Titleist have launched their newest Vokey wedge, the SM4 wedge, aimed at reclaiming some of the spin lost following the change of groove regulations in 2010.
The new Vokey wedge, called the SM4 because it is the 4th generation of Spin Milled wedge, features a new configuration with 17 grooves on the face with each one precisely milled right to the edge of the R&A's legal limit.
In fact, so close is each groove to the conforming limits of geometry edge radius that each one has to be individually inspected after it has been milled before it leaves the factory to go on sale.
The face surface is also precisely machined with a series of milled micro edges resulting in greater surface roughness for improved spin on partial shots versus a polished wedge face. Regardless of the conditions or shot type, Spin Milled technology provides maximum spin and shot control.
After the original C-C wedges were released, the Vokey Design team continued to investigate ways to recapture some of the backspin on full shots hit from the rough that was lost due to the new groove guidelines. The new SM4 groove was designed to be narrower than the C-C design in order to accommodate more grooves, making use of a 17-scoreline pattern, a combination that proved optimal in player testing.
