A total of four Major Champions, six Ryder Cup stars and 31 European Tour winners will line up for the 57th edition of the ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf, which will be held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club from the 21st-24th November.

Home hero Adam Scott, Ireland’s Graeme McDowell, Argentina’s Angel Cabrera and Fiji’s Vijay Singh make up the quartet of Major men who will be going for glory – and a prize fund of US$8million.

Between them, the four have amassed no fewer than 36 European Tour titles, but as yet none has tasted success in the World Cup of Golf.

The same could not be said for American Matt Kuchar, Italy’s Francesco Molinari and German Marcel Siem, the only three players in the 60-man field to have triumphed in the tournament, which this year moves away from the Mission Hills Resort in China and reverts to a stroke play format but still retains a team component.

The make-up of the 60-man field is based on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), with up to two players per country allowed to qualify (or four per country if they were within the top 15 of the OWGR).

This year the home nations are represented by Chris Wood and David Lynn (England), Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry (Ireland), Matin Laird and Stephen Gallacher (Scotland) and Jamie Donaldson and Stuart Manley (Wales).

WINS: The United States of America holds the record for the most number of wins with 23. South Africa is next with five, then Australia and Spain with four, followed by Canada’s three titles. Next are England, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Sweden and Wales, all with two victories.

Four countries have triumphed once: Argentina, Chinese Taipei, Scotland and Italy.

Arnold Palmer (1960, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1966 and 1967) and Jack Nicklaus (1963, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1971 and 1973) jointly hold the record for most victories by a player.

APPEARANCES: Argentina, Australia, England and the United States hold the record for the most appearances with 53. Germany comes next with 51, then Canada with 50.

HOSTS: The US has hosted the World Cup more than any other country, staging the tournament on 11 occasions.

Spain, Mexico and China are next with five.

In all, 25 countries have hosted the event. This year’s venue - Royal Melbourne Golf Club - holds the distinction of being the most-used venue when it holds its fourth event this month.

European Tour –Turkish delight for Woods Less than two months from his 38th birthday, Tiger Woods remains the most commanding figure in televised golf. Which explains why he is being paid a reported $3 million to spearhead the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open, starting at Belek’s Montgomerie Maxx Royal Resort today.
