Once again Callaway have continued with their innovative ideas to design an iron that will provide golfers with greater ball speed and increased distance.

By bringing their incredible Big Bertha technology to a new range of irons and hybrids they have once again succeeded in developing a range of irons that will cement their position as a leading club manufacturer. Featuring the same 360 Face Cup technology used in Callaway’s fairway woods, the new Big Bertha Irons promise higher ball speed throughout the entire face, offering golfers up to 2 clubs longer than their previous irons.

The club’s hollow body construction utilizes an internal standing wave to help achieve higher launch with maximum forgiveness and flexibility. Giving you the ultimate in ball speed with control. Callaway’s Head of R&D, Alan Hocknell told Callaway Talks, “You’ve seen us work on ball speed with the X Hot (and) the X2 Hot but this (the Big Bertha Iron) is a big step forward in being able to generate ball speed and yet still get great control of that ball speed (with) great easy to get up in the air characteristics.” Adding, “We’ve got a very special iron.” The Callaway Big Bertha Steel Irons have a progressive look and is confidence inspiring to look at behind the golf ball.

The long iron have a wider hybrid style sole to promote a higher, easier ball flight and as you go through the set the sole gets narrower to make the irons more playable, workable and better distance control. To accompany the premium look of the Callaway Big Bertha Irons Callaway have fitted a premium shaft to this iron- the True Temper Speed Step 80 steel shaft but as always with Callaway they offer more shafts through their custom club department.

No doubt the Callaway Big Bertha Steel Irons are what the ethos of Callaway is- making the game more enjoyable for the masses and this new design is ridiculously long, controllable and feels fantastic off the face.

One slight negative in comparison to recent designs from Callaway is the fact these big bertha irons are quite wide at the base and don’t look as well at address as last year’s X2 hot model.

This design may also hinder your ability to keep the ball low when required, then again most golfers are just glad to get the ball airborne and this is something this club will definitely promote. These irons are also complimented with a new wood design for next year The Callaway Big Bertha V Series, which are quite similar to the original Greta Big Bertha design but obviously much better performance wise.
