The season curtain raiser – The Masters – is just around the corner (April 9-12). The lush green grass and pink azaleas of Augusta will soon be shining from your TV sets as the first Major of the year gets underway. But who will slip into the famous Green Jacket this year? Rory McIlroy will no doubt start as the favourite having won the last two Major titles and brimming with confidence as he looks to claim the career Grand Slam at the tender age of just 25.

There are plenty of other young charges coming through to challenge for the title though such as Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and, of course, Rickie Fowler who performed so well in last year’s Majors. Fowler finished in the top five of all four and the question is will he go one better this year?

The star of Augusta is always the course itself, always in pristine condition; there is something magical about the place. Over the years it has witnessed some outstanding scenes and memorable shots.

For a bit of value at this year’s event the following players offer better value than the leading favourites: Bill Haas at 100/1 ticks all the right boxes, not only is he normally straight and long off the tee but he also is one of the best putters. Represents great each way value and has already won this year on the PGA Tour.

Martin Kaymer 80/1, knows how to win a major, is also a great putter and his temperament is ideal for Augusta.

Henrik Stenson 22/1, this could be the week that Henrik finally ends his quest to win his first major. The Swede’s accurate, powerful game is perfect for Augusta and no doubt he has a strategy in place to play the course in a regimented way. He has been performing really well over the last few months and deserves his first major, he’s great value to win at 22/1.

Shane Lowry 100/1, has been playing on the PGA Tour this year and has been performing with great credit. He has an excellent short game and seems comfortable playing in big events.
