Josh Elliott ended his dream season with yet another win in the British Superstock 1000 Championship on Sunday. For the second time this season the Ballinamallard rider eclipsed all his rivals around Brands Hatch on his way to the top step of the podium, stretching his final championship winning margin to a convincing 52 points.

Josh went into the final event of the calendar with the newly earned number one on his bike, but he was made to work hard for the top spot. A difficult qualifying session held in changeable weather conditions saw Josh back in an unfamiliar fourth position at the start of the race and he slipped to sixth on the first lap before he mounted a comeback drive.

“We had made a good choice in set up, but I got a bad start and was back in sixth on the first lap and I knew it was going to be difficult then,” he said. “I could see Hudson Kennaugh pulling away at the front, so I got my head down and tried to get past the riders in front of me as quickly as possible. Once I got through them there was quite a big gap to Hudson but I put on a big charge to try to catch him. On the last lap I was about half a second behind him and he crashed at turn two. I think he was feeling a bit of the pressure. He knew I was getting closer and closer and he pushed it too hard into turn two and crashed.” Although Josh had already sealed the title, he was determined to round off his campaign in style around a track on which he had already tasted victory this season. “To get the win was brilliant,” he admitted. “I was going into Brands wanting to win. I wasn’t going to relax. I wanted to go out on top and prove I was a champion. It was brilliant.” Although his Superstock campaign is over, Josh is not putting his leathers away just yet. He will be back on the track at Bishopscourt for the Sunflower Trophy Races at Bishopscourt this weekend, before sorting out his plans for next season. “We are looking towards trying to get into the Superbikes next year,” he revealed. “We are talking to one or two teams about it and trying to get the right deal for next year. There are definitely good options out there. It’s all about getting the right people behind you and the right backing. The people we have been speaking to have put a good deal on the table for us. It’s not easy but we are going to keep working on it.”
