The Ulster Superbike Championship continued at the weekend when the Temple club hosted the third round at Bishopscourt, and several members of the Enniskillen & District MCC were in action.
Making his first appearance of the season in the Supersport Cup class was Pettigo rider Dylan Leonard. Having got off to great start to the day picking up third in race one behind Kyle Walsh and Tommy Henry, Leonard got his race face on for the six lap race two to take the win by just 3/10ths of a second over Walsh. In the same class, club members Adrian Heraty finished 10th and eighth while Jessica McWilliams picked up two 19th places. In the Superbike cup, Alan Armstrong picked up two podium second places behind double winner Andy McAllister.
Jamie Lyons picked up where he left off last time out at Easter in the Junior Cup class, posting another two superb second places behind double winner Jonny Campbell, which now gives him the fortune of leading the championship. In the same class, Adam McClintock finished eighth and ninth in the two races, while run concurrently, Liam Baird scored seventh and eighth places in the young guns challenge where Joshua Rae was a double winner. In the Lightweight Supersport class, Enda Trearty finished with fifth and seventh places with Alvin Griffin and Sean O’Neill taking the wins while Scott Swann was victorious in the moto3 class.  Derek O’Donnell had a great run in the pre-injection class with a podium 3rd place in race one and just missed out on repeating the same result in race two, while Steven Love came home in seventh and eighth in both his two outings. Missing out on qualifying for the Supersport Cup class, Ashley Whelan had to compete with the pre-injections but he was the first cup rider home in race one followed by a second in race two. Jonny Irwin was the double winner.
In the production twins, Kesh rider David McCrea added to his points tally once again with two ninth place finishes, while Wayne Bussell had a better day this time around with an 11th and a 14th, with Championship leader Kevin Lavery taking both wins. Paul Gartland meanwhile decided to make the trip to Bishopscourt rather than across the water in preparation for the upcoming first road race, and he scored two top six finishes on his 650 Supertwin. The race victories were shared by Marty Lennon and Sean O’Neill.
Aaron Armstrong scored another two top 10 finishes in a very tough Superbike Pro class, while at the front Charles Stuart got his revenge over Easter meeting winner Gerard Kingham with a double win. But there wasn’t much to seperate the two of them in either race, just 3/10ths of a second. Thomas O’Grady completed the podium in race one, while Alistair Kirk got the verdict in race two.
Similar margins separated the top men in the Supersport Pro class with Korie McGreevy and Ross Patterson sharing the wins. While in the sidecar class, Dylan Lynch and Mark Gash were the victors in race one while Peter O’Neill and Alvin Griffin took race two.
The road race season, and first up for our two local national racers Melissa Kennedy and Paul Gartland this weekend is the KDM hire Cookstown 100 in County Tyrone.
Roads close for practice on Friday 27th April at 12 noon on the Orritor circuit, while on Saturday, roads close at 10am with racing starting thereafter.
