Gary Robinson was in action in the Mondello Masters in Kildare at the weekend and enjoyed some great racing setting a number of personal bests lap times in the process.

The meeting attracted a strong field of competitors keen to secure for the big prize money on offer.

On board his D. R. Refrigeration R6, Gary qualified ninth fastest in the supersport 600cc class in wet conditions. A dry Saturday afternoon saw some fierce racing where Fermanagh's only rider in the series was in the thick of the action, finishing race one in eighth place.

Race two on Sunday proved less fortunate for the Tempo man as he explained: "I was in third place on the first lap going into turn two when Glenn Irwin high sided in front of me. A load of bikes passed me and I could only manage to work my way back to 12th."

Race three was to prove better for Gary and he finished in sixth and smashed his own personal lap record for the circuit.

As a result of these displays, Gary was invited to compete in the feature Mondello Masters race which consisted mainly of 1000cc superbikes and a few British Championship riders. In a separate 30 minute qualifying session for this 15 lap race, Gary qualified 19th on his standard engined 600cc Yamaha.

During the race he yet again broke his personal best lap and was holding a superb eighth place before retiring.

A stoic Gary revealed: "I was holding a comfortable eighth place in the race but I didn't know it as I hadn't been paying attention to my pit board. On lap 13, I glanced at my board ant thought it said 28th but it actually said L2, P8, which meant two laps left, eighth place. As I thought I was just embarrassing myself, I pulled in and was told I was holding eighth and was the leading 600cc rider of the race. I could have kicked myself as I lost out on some much needed prize money. I shouldn't be annoyed, I had a fantastic weekend, I enjoyed every second of the action and I'm looking forward to the last round of the season , the Sunflower Trophy Races held at Bishopscourt Racing circuit on October 17 and 18."
