The road racing season roared into action last weekend at the Cookstown 100 where Gary Robinson secured an excellent eighth position in the highly competitive Supersport 600cc race.
In dry conditions Gary qualified in 16th position for the supersport race and 14th for the Open A race, at the 2.1 mile Orritor Circuit.
In the Open race, which was dominated by superbikes, Gary finished 17th place on the DR Refrigeration Yamaha. Gary stated that he was really only using this race as practice for the supersport race. This worked to the Tempo man's advantage as he was on fire in the supersport race, working his way up to eighth place from 16th on the grid. "I was only 0.3 of a second from securing sixth place," said Gary. "I struggled to get past a few riders which slowed me up, but I was well chuffed with the result. The reception from the crowd was amazing."
Gary still holds the lap record at the Cookstown Circuit for the Support 750cc class, which he set in 2007 on his first ever road race.
These excellent results have put Gary in a good frame of mind for the infamous International North West 200 which takes place on May 15, just over two weeks away.
"I'm really looking forward to the North West. I had a poor run last year as the weather spoiled it but we can just hope for better conditions this year. Even though my standard bike struggles a little on the straights, I know I've a lot more to give on the North West circuit."
Gary would like to thank the Enniskillen 100 motorcycle club for a very successful poker run, held on Sunday April 11. Over 40 bikes turned up and a total of £560 was handed over to Gary. "I'm really thankful to the Enniskillen 100 Motorcycle club and all the bikers who turned up to support the event. It's a massive inspiration to me when I see so many people supporting me, thank you."
The Robinson Racing team are holding a Curry Night this Saturday night in the Milltown Manor Tempo at 8pm. Tickets are £10, available at the door. Entertainment is by PJ the DJ.
