Local rally driver Jon Armstrong has been cutting his teeth against more experienced drivers in the opening four rounds of the Rallysport Association 10 Round Summer Series.

Indeed, Jon has been driving faultlessly throughout the first four rounds, competing well against stiff competition not only obtaining good class results but finishing high in the overall rally results against some higher classed machines.

Jon is driving a new car in the series, a Ford Fiesta ST GPN having swapped over the Fiat Stilo he piloted to second in the Winter Series and has also been competing at new venues such as Bishopscourt and Bluestone in Portadown.

The fast learning youngster has remained undaunted and racked up a series of good finishes in class and overall. In the first round in Moneyglass in April, Jon was leading his class and was as high as third overall only to suffer double driveshaft failure on the fifth stage which ended his rally.

He fared better in the second round at Bishopscourt which saw him tackle the new venue in his new car and he took well to the tarmac test to finish third in class and get his point scoring underway.

In the third round held on gravel at Bluestone, another new challenge for Jon, the youngster earned maximum points for the championship with a superb second overall.

The fourth round was held in Moneyglass in the middle of June and Jon again secured a fine result as he was sixth overall, second in class and was the third two wheel drive car to finish.

All in all, it has been a good summer thus far for Jon as he continues to learn and test himself against more experienced drivers.

Next up is a two-day summer shoot-out at two different venues, Bluestone on gravel and Moneyglass on July 10.
