Jon Armstrong has landed the best result of his short rallying career, winning the Rallysport Association two day summer shoot-out. Up against a host of more experienced drivers Jon emerged victorious after two days of action on mixed surface stages.

Driving a Ford Fiesta ST, he made a great start to the summer series with a second place finish at Bluestone on the first day of competition. In tricky wet conditions the local driver finished second overall and first in class four, giving him a realistic chance of success approach day two. His opening day challenge could have been even stronger but for being held up by a slower car on one of the stages.

Toomebridge hosted the final day's action in the summer series, and Jon was determined to push hard in a bid for victory. He got off to a good start by clocking the third fastest time on the opening stage, and more importantly taking four seconds out of the day one winner to reduce the deficit to just one second.

As the day progressed Jon remained in contention for outright success, surviving a close encounter with a bank on the penultimate stage which resulted in a bent axle but thankfully minimal time loss. With everything to play for on the final test the arrival of rain merely added to the tension of the occasion, but Jon's inexperience did not affect his progress.

He decimated the opposition to post a time a full three seconds faster than his nearest challenger, giving him second overall on the day and first overall in the summer shoot out.
