Enniskillen Motor Club's Clubman Stages rally roars into action this weekend, with a strong two wheel drive entry contesting stages through the Lough Navar complex near Derrygonnelly.
The rally, sponsored by Cash and Carry Farm Supplies, has in previous years only been open to two wheel drive cars. This year however spectators will get a chance to admire some four wheel drive machinery.
With rallies throughout the province struggling to grab entries in the current economic climate, the motor club has introduced a new class to attract a few more competitors. The new class seven will see four wheel drive cars, but not World rally cars, being allowed to take their place on the start ramp, although they will not be eligible for outright victory.
The two wheel drive stars are sure to provide high quality entertainment as they race through the tree lined Lough Navar stages. The route is mainly tarmac, with only 5 per cent of the 41 competitive mileage on loose surface tracks. The finish of the rally is at Old Pals Bar in Derrygonnelly.
At number one is last year's winner; Gary McElhinney and giving him a run for his money will be Andrew Trotter plus the Campbell brothers Brendan, Declan and Ronan from Tempo. The Campbell clan, as usual, all in Mk ll Escorts; Brendan in his 2.0 BDA , Declan in his 2.0 Cosworth on Webers and Ronan in his usuaj 2.0 Pinto should provide great entertainment for the spectators in the Lough Navar Forest venue
Ballinamallard driver, Raymond Johnston is appearing again in his newly-built historic 2.0 BDA Mk ll Escort running on Kugelfischer fuel injection. Other entries include Damian McCaffrey whilst Declan McGarrity and brother Martin will look for an improvement in Class 3 over their third in Class on the Lakeland Stages, again in their Vauxhall Nova.
