Josh Elliott made it three podium finishes from three races as he claimed second place at the May Day meeting at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

The runners up position increases his lead in the early championship standings to eight points, but it was a feeling of frustration for the local rider as the race was cut short, depriving him of the chance to mount a late attack on the leader and eventual winner Alastair Seeley.

Josh played a waiting game in the previous round and was able to surge past Seeley on the final lap, but his hopes of repeating that feat were dashed when the race was ended on lap 11 after an accident.

“The red flag didn’t really work in my favour this weekend and it sort of ruined my race if I’m honest,” said Josh. “I led for a short period but was happy sitting behind lining Alastair up as I’d already worked out where he was weaker than me on track. It was a good battle and the plan was to make a last lap pass but the red flag put paid to that plan. It’s good to get another solid podium and more points on the board, which has helped me retain my series lead. Big thanks to the team for the effort and my personal sponsor, Socialites Electric Cigarettes.” South African Hudson Kennaugh claimed third place and holds onto second spot in the championship, but the experienced Seeley is more likely to be Josh’s main title rival for the remainder of the season, and he was quick to acknowledge that the early end to the race played into his hands. “It might have looked comfortable but Josh is riding really well and I was expecting to see him on those last couple of laps, so for once I was happy to see the red flags,” he stated.

Round 4 of the Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc class will be on Sunday May 24th at Donington Park during the World Superbike Championship event, with Josh on board his Morello Racing Kawasaki hoping to continue his run of podium finishes to maintain his place at the top of the standings.
