Border Counties Outdoor League; Dungannon 6 points (51shots)
Enniskillen 1 point (45 shots)
Score does not reflect on the closeness
After some disappointing results in recent weeks Enniskillen travelled to Dungannon on Wednesday hoping for a change in fortunes, but after a very close encounter came home with only a single point.
Winning one game, losing two by only a single shot and losing the fourth by seven shots showed the closeness of this game.
Mr consistency, Wilfred Crawford and his rink continued to carry the flag with yet again Enniskillen's only win of the evening.
Wilfie who was ably assisted by Tom McGrath, Andy Wray and Jack Shaw made a remarkable recovery to win their game against Dungannon's Noel Burrows. Finding themselves ten shots to three down after eight ends, the Enniskillen rink brilliantly won six out of the seven remaining ends and the game by 14 shots to 11.
In a very close affair, Enniskillen rink skipped by Eric Hamilton and accompanied by Teresa McCourt, Alex Morrow and Dessie Brown, just lost out by a single shot, ten shots to nine against Dungannon's Derek Robinson. In this end to end game the score was locked at seven shots each with four ends remaining in which each rink won two but Dungannon sealing victory with an extra shot to win ten shots to nine.
On rink three the Enniskillen rink skipped by Roly Livingston and assisted by Joe Reilly, Maurice Brown and Ivor Armstrong had another very interesting close encounter with Dungannon's Harold Dunbar. This game could have gone either way which was reflected by the score of four shots each at the end of seventh end and at ten shots each after the completion of the 12th end. Going into the last end, Roly's rink needed three shots to draw level but unfortunately for the Enniskillen rink could only manage to chalk up to yet again lose the game by a single 13 shots to 12.
In the remaining game between Enniskillen's David Dickson and Dungannon's A Rafferty, it was the visiting rink that dictated the game in the first half having built up a promising nine shots to four lead at the end of the eighth. Unfortunately for David's rink of Packie Howe, Robert Wilson and Janet Browne the remainder of the game went Dungannon's way who eventually won relatively easily by a 17 shots to ten margin.
An improvement for Enniskillen on previous weeks but a lot to do in the remaining fixtures if they have any possibility of retaining the league title from last season.
Letterkenny 7
Clogher Valley 0
Clogher Valley who along with Enniskillen will be disappointed with their first half of the league performances had another poor result in their first game of the second half fixtures.
Away to Letterkenny, Clogher Valley were well aware that this game was going to be difficult, but were hoping to at least pick up a couple of points of the league leaders. Unfortunately for them that was not to be and they were well beaten in all four games. The only thing that Clogher Valley have to their advantage for the remainder of the season is that four out of their remaining five games left to play are at home and these results should bring them back into contention in the league placing.
On Wednesday at Letterkenny it was all one way for the home team, coming under no threat at all from the visitors in all four games.
Louis Reilly and his Letterkenny four had always control of their game against Clogher Valley's Blaney Cartwright skip, Sandy Atwell, Noel Clarke and Frances Cartwright. After the Letterkenny rink picked up a five followed by a three in the fifth and sixth ends it was virtually game over for Blaney's rink who eventually lost by 17 shots to six.
Ernie Clarke's Clogher Valley rink of Phylis McFarland, Noel McElroy and Stewart Mulligan were having a real ding dong battle with Dan O'kane's rink up to the ninth end where the score was all square at eight shots each. Then a skips nightmare happened when the Clogher Valley four lost a 'full house' all eight shots in the tenth end which obviously was the winning end for the Letterkenny rink who eased victory by 25 shots to nine.
In a similar story on rink one Clogher Valley's Matt Livingstone and his rink of Harold Nelson, Kenny Givens, and William Rutledge were having a evenly matched game against Letterkenny's James Marshall. Marshall's rink had accumulated a seven shots to one lead at the end of the sixth but in a brilliant fight back Matt's rink chalked up six shots in the following four ends to level the score. Unfortunately for the visiting rink they then dropped seven shots in the next three ends and never recovered to be defeated by 14 shots to nine.
In the last game of the evening Billy Kirkpatrick skip, Pat McElroy, Albert Browne and Violet Kirkpatrick found their opposition rink skipped by John Quinn in superb form and were under pressure right from the opening end. At the half way stage the Letterkenny rink had gone into a ten shots to four lead and continued to dominate the remainder of the game to win easily by 22 shots to six.
