Portora's first gold medals of the day were won in the junior women's double scull by the mighty duo of Katie Cromie and Jenny Russell, who led from the start.

There were also gold medals for Alex Hamilton, Ann Marie Maguire and cox Ciara St. Ledger from Portora, whose crew dominated the race in the women's junior eights, winning easily for Ireland. This achievement was quickly followed in the junior women's quadruple scull when Holly Nixon and fellow oarswomen from Skibbereen rowed to victory securing another gold medal for the Irish team. The Portora girls are to be credited for playing their part in Ireland winning the overall junior women's category.

Meanwhile in the junior men's section, Mark Coalter showed his experience in the stroke seat to bring the Irish junior four to a commendable second place.

Next up for Portora boys were talented young rowers Henry Miller and Lloyd Seaman in the junior men's coxed four who finished runners up to a strong Welsh junior crew.

The men's junior eight featured Portora's final representatives of the day, Alex O'Reilly and cox James Byrne, who achieved third place in their race.

All in all, it proved an exceptional Home International outing for the local rowers and their coaches.

These dedicated young athletes were great ambassadors not only for Ireland, but also for Fermanagh and their home club of Portora.
