Members of the Splitz Gymnastics Club travelled to the University of Ulster last Sunday to compete in the Northern Ireland Acrobatic Championships.

This is the club’s first year competing in the discipline of acrobatics where partners work together and perform routines that include balancing, flexibility and tumbling.

The youngest competitors Cohan Abraham and Michael Keenan were crowned Northern Ireland Champions bringing home gold medals for their men’s pair grade 1 performance.

Jessica Connolly and Ella O’Donnell achieved bronze medal position in the woman’s pair grade 1 category. An amazing achievement as this is the girls first competition together.

Senior pair Emily Prunty and Ciara Shannon produced a silver medal performance in their grade 4 woman’s pair routine.

Level 2 woman’s pair Niamh Smyth and Rosie Pendry, Level 3 woman’s pair Claire Teague and Emma McAdam and level 3 woman’s trio Sarah Rutledge, Eimear Shannon and Aisling Maguire all achieved position within in the top six in Northern Ireland.

Head coach Jennifer Hanna said: “I am extremely proud of each and everyone of my gymnasts. All partnerships produced clean solid performances and it is a credit to their hard work and dedication to achieve such incredible results in their first year of competition.” Any one interested in gymnastics should contact their local sports centre as all three leisure centres in Fermanagh have gymnastics schemes available over the summer, with normal classes resuming in September.
