A big semi-final derby encounter is one for all local rugby enthusiasts to look forward as Clogher Valley and Enniskillen were drawn to meet in the last four of this year’s Powerade Towns’ Cup.
Enniskillen produced a superb performance as they knocked out holders Ballynahinch 2nd XV at Mullaghmeen on Saturday and on Monday they were paired with local rivals Clogher Valley in the semi-finals.
Skins Head Coach Norman Richmond accepts that his side will go into the game as the underdogs and says all the pressure will be on Clogher who also have the advantage of the game being at the Cran. He stresses though that it is a game that his side are thoroughly looking forward to.
"Clogher Valley are a very strong side and with it being at the Cran, that is a great advantage for them," said Richmond. "They are the Qualifying League One side while we are Qualifying League Two so in that regards they have everything to lose and we have nothing to lose. I would expect the Cran to be stuffed that day and we're looking forward to it," he commented.
Clogher had sealed their place in the last four the previous week with victory over Portadown and coach Davy Black says that the key thing for them is that they have home advantage.
"The only thing we wanted out of the draw was a home tie, it didn't matter who the opposition were," he said.
He does though feel that the semi-final clash will attract plenty of local interest as the pair go head to head for a place in the final.
"It's a local derby and it is good for rugby in the West to see two local teams going at it for a place in the final."
Despite Clogher playing in the league above Enniskillen, Black anticipates a big test.
"It will be tough, they have been going really well this year and they have to be respected," he added.
