Portora Royal's bid to make the last four of the Subsidiary Shield ended in glory on Wednesday afternoon at Portora Lane.

When they earned a hard fought replay two point win over Limavady with tries from Charlie Sargaisson and Steven Patterson booking a place against Campbell College in the semi-final.

That game will take place at Portora Lane on Saturday morning. Contact the school for details.

It did not look so good for Portora at the end of the first quarter as they trailed to two Limavady penalties but the home pack started to get om top and a try from the prolific Sargaisson got them back in the game before the break.

Portora forced two five metre scrums in quick succession and from the second of these, Sargaisson, who scored twice in the first game, crossed the line for an important score.

Scott Burrell missed the conversion from out on the wing but Portora only trailed by a point now.

The second half was equally competitive with a Burrell penalty midway through the half firing Portora into the lead for the first time.

Then came the score that was to eventually win the game for Portora. The home pack again made good ground deep into the Limavady 22 before the ball was switched out to the backs and Steven Patterson crossed in the corner. Scott Burrell kicked a super conversion, one that was to prove oh so crucial, from the sideline to give Portora a nine point lead at 15-6.

Limavady, though, would not give up and in the dying moments pushed over for a try to narrow the gap to four points. Indeed, the successful conversion reduced the gap to two but the final whistle sounded before the restart could be taken much to the delight of the hard working Portora lads.
