Clogher Valley coach Davy Black hailed his team as "absolutely brilliant" but their efforts could not prevent them losing the Powerade Towns' Cup final by a single point to Ballymoney on Monday.

Going into the game on the back of a five match unbeaten run hopes were high that Clogher Valley could repeat their cup success of 2007, but instead they suffered an agonising repeat of their one point defeat in 2006.

"To get beaten by a point is always disappointing, but having said that the players all gave 100 per cent," said the coach. "We couldn't have done any more, but if it isn't going to happen then it isn't going to happen. Our record at Ravenhill isn't one you would write home about - it just hasn't happened for us there, and that's two finals now we have lost by a point each time. Having said that you have to take heart because being there at all was a big achievement and we will make it back again. The club is strong enough to do that and with players hopefully coming back for us next season as well, the future looks good for us."

Black was delighted with the performance of his entire team.

He added: "Team wise it was an absolutely brilliant performance and we couldn't have given anything more. Our back row was very good and Henry Richmond got man of the match. Barry John Wilson I thought was outstanding as well at number eight. Indeed, the whole pack played very well but it would be unfair to single anyone out particularly."

Despite the cruel nature of the defeat, Davy realises that their season is far from over and there could even be a chance of redemption at Ravenhill in the form of the Junior Cup. After a match against Coleraine this weekend, they will contest the semi-final of the Junior Cup, and after a succession of defeats at Ravenhill in recent years a semi-final victory would give them another chance to lay that particular hoodoo to rest before the season is over.
