Clogher Valley are going into the biggest match in their history confident they can bring the All Ireland Junior Cup back to the Cran.

They face County Wexford side Enniscorthy in the final on Saturday, and despite having been defeated by the same opponents at the semi final stage last year they go into the match as many people’s favourites for victory.

Clogher Valley qualified for the Cup by virtue of their top four finish in the league last season.

That earned them a spot alongside the other top four finishers from each province in a sixteen team knock out format.

Kanturk provided a tough test in the first round, with the runaway leaders of the Munster Junior League Division One within sight of victory before a 78th minute try secured a narrow 10-9 victory for Clogher Valley.

It was a much more routine win in the quarter finals as the local side dispatched the challenge of Kilfeacle in emphatic style to earn themselves a tie against Skibbereen in the semi final.

Despite the long journey to Cork, Clogher Valley overcame an early six point deficit to triumph 20-9 and earn their first ever appearance in an All Ireland final.

Clogher Valley come into the final in a rich vein of form, having won each of their previous ten fixtures and having established a six point lead at the top of the Kukri Qualifying One league table.

Their January performances have been particularly eye catching. After scoring 27 unanswered points against Bangor they dominated Portadown to defeat their nearest challengers in the league 19-10.

Last Saturday they avenged their defeat to Ballyclare in November by crushing the Division two leaders to reach the quarter final of the Towns Cup.

In contrast, Enniscorthy have struggled in the Leinster League this season.

They currently lie fifth in the eight team league with seven defeats from their twelve fixtures, 32 points adrift of the league leaders.

The Leinster team edged past Portadown in the semi final by a single point, with their scrambled victory in stark contrast to Clogher Valley’s dominant victory over the same opponents less than two weeks ago.
