On Tuesday evening, Enniskillen Ladies U18s travelled to Stevenson Park in Dungannon to participate in the Ulster Cup Final.

From the outset, both teams put in excellent tackles and made great lines. Enniskillen were the stronger team in breaking the game line with Alison Glass barging her way through to swiftly offload the ball to scrum half Kathryn Dane to dive over the line for try number one.

After the restart, Skins continued to dominate the possession with excellent passing from the backs to allow Rebecca Pennell to score the second try of the game.

Enniskillen’s defensive line was tested as Quins made use of their backs and passed through the hands heading in the direction of the try line. However after turning over the ball at the ruck, Lucy Barr seized the opportunity and sprinted down the wing outrunning numerous Quins players to score try number three. As half time approached, a further try was added by Kathryn Dane to bring the score at half time to 20-0 in Skins favour.

Immediately from the restart, Skins added immense pressure on Quins with excellent tackles coming in from Katie Boles, Rachel West and Maeve Sommerville. A knock-on from Harlequins allowed Kathryn Dane to take advantage, scooping the ball up and sprinting down the wing only to dance around a few more Quins players before passing to Rebecca Pennell to score her second try of the game.

Skins continued to up the tempo and made excellent lines before being awarded a penalty in the 22. They could feel another try was beckoning so Kathryn Dane passed the ball to No.8 Alice Hurst who drove for the line with multiple Harlequin players trying to form a maul and stop her. Quick thinking allowed Alice to hand the ball back to Claire Boles to touch the ball down for try number five.

Belfast Harlequins regrouped and piled on the pressure in Skins 22 in the final ten minutes and edged closer to the try. A resulting penalty allowed them to dive over the whitewash for the first time in the game. However, it was Enniskillen who had the last say of the match and finished the game off in style with flanker Hollie Bruce taking on about six Harlequins players, pushing her way through to score the final try of the game allowing Skins to lift the Under-18s Ulster Cup.

Meanwhile, the Senior Ladies rugby season is not quite finished yet with the prestigious Rosie Stewart Memorial Cup still to play for.

Enniskillen RFC will be hosting this tournament for the first time on Sunday April 27 starting at 2.00pm. Six teams, who have had to earn their place through qualification, will play for this hotly contested Senior Ulster Cup on the day.

The teams will be split into two groups and are playing on a round robin basis with the winners of each section then playing in the final.

Enniskillen Ladies have Ballyshannon and league winners Cooke in their section which means the games will be very tough from the outset. Queens, Belfast Harlequins and Cavan make up the second group. All support will be very much appreciated.
