On Sunday, Enniskillen hosted Ballyshannon in their first fixture of 2015 and gott off to a winning start in this season’s Ulster Cup.

The game started slowly with Ballyshannon attacking hard, requiring big tackles from Collette McMorrow, Leona Hallett and in particular Fionnuala McGlover who had a very good game throughout.

Ballyshannon had decent ball retention but were of no real threat to Enniskillen and were held in their own half for much of their possession.

Enniskillen eventually got control of both ball and territory and for the remainder of the first half, Skins played some great rugby.

McGlover was again to the fore on the attack, aptly assisted by Ulster and Irish youth international Kathryn Dane with Senior Ulster player Noreen Nethercott carving holes in the Ballyshannon midfield defence.

When the Skins midfield attack yielded, it was kept alive by surging attacks from Eimear Corrigan, Aoibhin Kelly and Lousie Thompson.

By the end of the first half, Skins had four tries from Nethercott (2), Thompson (1) and Hallett (1) giving them an early bonus point from the encounter.

The second half continued in the same vein with great attacking play, moving the ball with accuracy and offloading in the tackle in an excellent effort to keep the ball alive. Great driving attacks by Aine Stennett, Sarah Evans and Clare Brogan created space for Shauna Murphy to unleash wave after wave of attack, Murphy having yet another excellent game and showing real potential of pushing for Ulster honours. By full time Skins had two more tries by Nethercott and Corrigan.

Ballyshannon did provide stiff opposition and battled hard until the end when a cheeky chip over the Skins defence was squeezed down for a fine consolation try to leave the final score at 34-5.

This was a great start to their cup campaign and leaves Skins sitting nicely in the competition but with sterner tests lying ahead against their other Pool A opponents, facing City of Derry in two weeks and then Cooke on February 1.
