The Enniskillen Lakelanders sent a five strong team of young swimmers to the final junior swimming competition of the season, the Swim Ulster Novice Gala which was held in Ballymena on Saturday.

Caitlin Love swapped her recent painting class with none other than Barack Obama to produce a number of top swims in five events garnering three silver medals and a bronze medal in the process.

A sixth place finish in the 50m breaststroke in a new PB time was to be the forerunner of a great day as Caitlin went on to win silver in the 50m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly. A bronze in her final event, the 50m butterfly rounded off a super series of swims for the 11-year-old.

12-year-old Aimee Fitzpatrick took part in six events and certainly saved her best for last as she juts missed out on a gold medal by a fingertip as she won silver in the 200m breaststroke, clocking an Ulster Qualifying time into the bargain.

Aimee had started the day with a fine fourth in the 50m breaststroke and clocked a number of PBs, top ten finishes and Ulster Qualifying times in her other events.

Aimee's younger sister Lauren was enjoying her first competitive gala and competed in all four stokes over 50 metres. She produced some great debut performances and times which she will no doubt improve upon further as she gains more experience in the pool.

11-year-old Sorcha Lavelle swam in all four 50m disciplines and picked up a deserved bronze medal in the 50m backstroke where she finished just behind team-mate Caitlin Love. She also showed great promise for the future with excellent swims in the freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke events. Fermanagh was also represented by Sliagh Beagh swimmers Caoimhe and Caragh Leonard who between then secured four golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Caragh swimming in the nine-year-old age group was the clear winner in the 50m backstroke taking the gold medal in a time of 45.21 seconds, this was followed by her older sister Caoimhe taking the gold in the 11-year-old age group in a time of 44.30 seconds.

Both girls did personal best times in the 200m free, Caoimhe doing 2.58.13, Caragh 3.02.25 and taking the bronze and gold respectively.

Caragh also took the silver in the nine-year-old 50m butterfly.

Both girls finished off the day with two more personal times in the 200m breaststroke. Caragh taking the gold medal in her age group and Caoimhe swam a brilliant race to take the silver in her age group.
