The Swim Ireland Irish Minor Schools Championships took place on Sunday in the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
There was an entry of over 480 young swimmers who qualified for this competition from throughout Ireland.
Caragh Leonard (10yrs) from St Mary’s Mullymesker in Arney did her school and Sliabh Beagh swimming club proud, claiming the Irish Schools title in the 50m Freestyle in a time of 33.2secs in a highly competitive event. Everything came together in this final for Caragh with a great start and turn she powered home to take gold.
Not content with winning gold in the freestyle she then turned her attention to the backstroke with an entry of over 80 competitors. Caragh was placed fifth going into the final and with great determination made her way to silver position. This topped off a fantastic competition for this young swimmer with an Irish title and silver medal making its way back to St Mary’s Mullymesker in Arney.
