CC Houlihan, as Elvis, will play the Ardhowen on Saturday, August 14.

This Thursday 12th August, The Wolfe Tones return to the Ardhowen stage following their sell out concert last summer. Their ‘Let The People Sing’ tour which takes in venues all over Ireland features all the band’s hit ballads of the past as well as some newly introduced songs from their four decade long career. Their own unique style of performance has made them one of the most popular Irish ballad groups touring today. The concert starts at 8pm.

On Saturday 14th August, it’s the annual summer Elvis concert featuring the amazing CC Houlihan, along with The Sweet Sensations vocal backing group. CC Houlihan was the overall winner of the recent Paddy Power All Ireland Elvis contest and went on to take 3rd place in the worldwide Elvis contest in the United States. It should be a great night of nostalgia as we revisit all the hits from ‘The King’s’ long career right from the jailhouse rock days to the Las Vegas years. The show starts at 8pm.

Steel Magnolias

The final drama production in Ardhowen Theatre’s summer season of comedy is presented on Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st August at 8pm, when the popular Bangor Drama Club brings Robert Harling’s hilarious and touching comedy ‘Steel Magnolias’ to the stage. It’s a very funny, yet touching story of six women, set in a beauty parlour in a small Louisiana town. Through action spanning a period of three years, Clairee, Ouiser, M’Lynn and Shelby, Truvy’s regular customers and Annelle her eager but inexperienced assistant, engage in the usual banter and small town gossip, running the gamut of the birth, marriage, death cycle. Only when a tragic event occurs in the community, do we see the strength, depth and purposefulness underlying the antic and comic banter of these amazing characters. This very entertaining production begins at 8.00pm.

Henry McCullough

One of the greatest rock guitarists of modern times, the legendary Henry McCullough is back in Ardhowen’s Gallery Bar on Saturday 28th August at 9.00pm with a great night of McCullough bluesy, rock. His amazing career includes playing with Paul McCartney and Wings, Joe Cocker, The Greaseband, Frankie Miller, Janice Joplin and many, many others. Henry is the only Irish musician to have played at the immortal Woodstock Festival and at that time toured with Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, The Move and the great Jimi Hendrix. Don’t miss this chance to see a legend in our time. Early booking advised as seating is limited.

Other Events

The hugely popular May McFettridge is back by popular request for another helping of the smash hit comedy ‘A Happy Medium’ to open Ardhowen’s Autumn season on Saturday 4th September. This is quickly followed on September 10th and 11th with more laughter and comedy in the shape of the amazing funny man Conal Gallen, who is guaranteed to have you helpless with laughter.

Booking for all Autumn and Winter shows at the Theatre is open and covers everything up to and including the panto, ‘Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs’, in early January. Why not call and pick up an event brochure or check everything out online on www.ardhowentheatre.com.
