This week at Ardhowen Theatre, it is a mixed bag indeed with ‘The Man Who Left The Titanic’ from Isosceles Theatre Company, Hugo Duncan’s annual Country 1st concert with an array of guests, a nostalgic journey through two World Wars with ‘In The Footsteps Of Heroes’ and International Medium Margaret Hurdman. All performances are at 8pm.
Eamon McCann
One of the most highly acclaimed singer/songwriters and Country Music stars in Ireland, Eamon McCann returns to the Ardhowen stage next Thursday 21st October at 8pm.
A popular entertainer both on stage and with his record sales, Eamon’s self penned single ‘A Bunch Of Bright Red Roses’ stayed on the Radio 2 play list for ten weeks, while more recently his hit single ‘Lay You Down’ has soared to the top of the Country Music charts in Ireland, Great Britain and throughout Europe. His concert includes tributes to some amazing icons of Country Music including Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson and Randy Travers.
Richard III
Shakespeare’s classic tale by ‘Love and Madness Theatre Company’ tells of a brilliant, scheming hunchback, who murders and seduces his way to the English throne.
The production on Friday 22nd October, is set during the final chapter in the War of the Roses, where we see in dramatic fashion, the life of one of the most diabolical and manipulative, yet charming and witty villains in Shakespeare’s canon and how, embittered by his own physical deformities, he will stop at nothing to gain control of England.
This critically acclaimed modern production comes to Ardhowen after a hugely successful London run. It starts at 8pm.
ABBA
One again, after numerous sell out shows at Ardhowen Theatre over the last number of years, the hugely popular Smackee return with their fabulous ABBA The Show on Saturday 23rd October.
With all the hits including ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Fernando’, ‘Super Trouper’, ‘Waterloo’, it’s sure to be another great evening of musical nostalgia. The performance is at 8pm.
Other Shows
Shakespeare revisits the Ardhowen stage once again on Thursday 28th October when National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company actor Gerald Logan presents the brilliant, brutal narrative poetic account of the terrible crime of rape, while on Friday 29th October, Ballet Ireland bring their sumptuous new production of ‘Romeo And Juliet’, a tale of star crossed lovers and one of the greatest love stories of them all.
It’s the amazingly talented Mary Coughlan, sometimes called Ireland’s answer to Peggy Lee who entertains us on Saturday 30th October. Her husky voice has also been likened to Billie Holiday, KD Lang and Edith Piaf. She is indeed something special. The performance starts at 8pm
