Fund-raising fun for St. Patrick's parade
As plans get under way for March 17 2012, Project St Patrick are delighted to secure a Scottish Accordion Band to take part in the day's celebrations.
Formed in July 2008, the Forth Bridges Accordion Band is a community marching band based in Central Scotland and boasts 50 members from the age of 3 to 70. The band was founded by local primary school teacher Mr Alan Potters (originally from Lisbellaw). Taking the name from a local famous landmark, the Forth Bridges Accordion Band is based in the town of Bo'ness around 20 miles outside Edinburgh.
The band plays a wide selection of Scottish Traditional Music, Hymns and Old Time Favorites. The band prides itself in being a very friendly family orientated group and even has members from three generations in two families. The members are looking forward to coming to Enniskillen for their first ever engagement outside Scotland. Project St Patrick are also working hard to attract our international cousins to the big day.
Despite a generous donation of £1,500 from half the proceeds of the recent Rock the Lough Festive-al, funding for the day is still urgently required and the committee are calling on supporters to attend one of two fundraising events remaining.
The first is a Pub Quiz being held in Pats Bar (tonight) Thursday, January 19 at 8pm, with lots of prizes on offer this promises to be a good evening.
The final event is on Friday, February 17 in the Hollow Bar and with the theme of Legends and Folklore. Everyone is invited to come along to party dressed as their favourite Legend, living or dead. Fancy Dress is not obligatory but you will be rewarded…Entry to both is £5 per person and all monies raised goes directly to providing entertainment for the day.
"We are still keen to hear from anyone wishing to enter a float, under the theme of Legends and Folklore and can match you with a flat bed lorry provider or let us know if you would prefer to participate by parading. Finally we need additional marshals on the day itself to ensure everything goes smoothly, so if you want to help out please get in touch. For further information on any of the above please contact Feargal Shannon on 07792 410028; stpatrickenniskillen@yahoo.ie or by visiting ProjectStPatrick on Facebook," said a spokesperson.
