Shadow puppet treat for younger audience

Shadow puppet theatre tells the tale of Aladdin at the Ardhowen on Wednesday, February 1.

There is plenty of buzz around the theatre at the minute with the pantomime 'Sleeping Beauty' presented by the Lakeland Players in full swing. The show started last week and this weekend will see the final shows taking to the stage. Tickets have been selling fast so please check with the Box Office or online to see if there are any left for the last few shows. For those of you who have already secured your tickets, you can look forward to a riot of comedy, colour, song and dance with one of the best loved fairy stories of all time.

The January 2012 season continues with two shows by the ever popular Conal Gallen. Again he has added an extra show, which is already close to selling out as well, so again please check with the Box Office. The 'On Tour 2012 Conal Gallen Laughin' All Over the World' is on Friday 27 January at 8pm, with the extra show on the night before on Thursday 26 January 2012 at 8pm. His shows are full of non-stop laughter and fun including rib-tickling jokes, stories and comedy songs including his latest fun single 'Do Your Ears Hang Low'.

The following night you can sit back and enjoy a night with the silky voice of Brendan Shine. 'An Evening with Brendan Shine' with compere Sean Wallace and special guests Ally Harron and Marion Curry is on Saturday 28 January at 8pm.

Performing live for four decades now with hits such as 'Grandad, 'Shoe The Donkey', 'My Name Is Dan', 'The Village Where I Went to School', 'Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down', 'Catch Me If You Can' and many more, Brendan is one of Ireland's top tv, radio and recording stars. Also included in the line up will be his daughter Emily along with little Johnny Dawson.

Shows coming up in early February are 'Aladdin' on Wednesday 1 February at 10.30am and is suitable for children aged 4 and over. This large scale contemporary Shadow Puppet theatre tells of a poor street boy who falls hopelessly in love with a Royal Princess. On Thursday 2 February at 8pm you can see 'Tim McGarry's Political Party', the new one-man stand-up show which follows on from 'Tim McGarry's Irish History Lesson'. On Friday 3 February 'Hugo Duncan's Country 1st' show takes to the stage at 8pm, followed by 'Fine Girl Ye Are', the legendary story of the Clancy Brothers and Tom Makem on Saturday 4 February at 8pm. Tickets for all the shows right up until May 2012 can be booked by telephoning the Box Office on 66 325440 Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm (7pm on a performance day), Saturday 11am-1pm, 2-5pm and 6-7pm or online anytime at www.ardhowentheatre.com.
