Fine girl ye are
The Kilkennys who will be appearing in 'Fine Girl Ye Are' on Saturday 4 February.
There is drama at the Ardhowen this month with 'The Winslow Boy' and 'Melmoth The Wanderer' taking to the stage, but there is also comedy, country music as well as Irish folk music. All these shows are taking place in early February with the hilarious 'Tim McGarry's Political Party', 'Hugo Duncan's Country 1st' and 'the legendary story of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem in 'Fine Girl Ye Are'.
Tim McGarry's Political Party
Fresh from the huge success of 'Tim McGarry's Irish History Lesson' last year, David Hull Promotions presents 'Tim McGarry's Political Party', where Tim sets his satirical sights on all things political. The lanky guru's one man stand-up show is a hilarious fun packed examination of how we do politics here. He takes a sharp look at our politicians and their contribution to making Northern Ireland the superb place it is today. Is it time for a new Party? Would you Vote McGarry? Maybe not, but you will be laughing at this sharp, scathing and side-splitting show which gives our politicians all the respect they so richly deserve. The show is on Thursday 2 February at 8pm.
Hugo Duncan's Country 1st
Described as 'The best country show in town', 'Country 1st' starring Hugo Duncan and friends is on Friday 3 February at 8pm. The show is fuelled by Hugo Duncan's boundless energy and fun. The wee man from Strabane gives you a great night of foot stomping country music, with a host of stars including Box Car Brian 'Scania 143', Trionagh Allen 'Walking on the Moon', the fiddling sensation Ritchie Remo, the yodelling gentleman of country Kenny Archer singing classic old time country and the velvet voice of Frankie McBride singing his hits including 'Five Little Fingers' and 'Burning Bridges'.
Hugo Duncan launched his career with his stunning hit 'Dear God' in the early 1970s. He joined Radio Foyle during the 1980s doing holiday relief, after which he was offered a job presenting his own show on a weekly basis, this in turn, led to his still popular Sunday afternoon show which he continues to do. In 1998 he was given the opportunity to present 'Country Afternoon', a daily programme on BBC Radio Ulster. Today he remains one of the top attractions on the Irish entertainment scene.
Fine Girl Ye Are
The Kilkennys are one of Ireland's finest groups of young balladeers, renowned for their incredible musicianship and vocal abilities and have gained a reputation for revitalising traditional Irish music and adding their own brand of youth and energy. They are currently touring with the 'Fine Girl Ye Are' production, a tribute show telling the legendary story of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. It is produced and narrated by former RTE producer Cathal McCabe and takes the audience on this legendary journey with the incredible songs and unforgettable humour of the most iconic folk group of all time.
'Fine Girl Ye Are' is a two and a half hour show that tells the amazing story from their origins in rural Ireland to international stardom as Ireland's greatest folk and ballad group. This production contains all the greatest hits from these iconic musicians including 'Brennan on the Moor', 'The Holy Ground', 'Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go', 'The Parting Glass' and a host of others sung and performed by The Kilkennys on Saturday 4 February at 8pm.
The Winslow Boy
Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society presents 'The Winslow Boy' by Terence Rattigan on Thursday, Friday Saturday 9, 10, 11 February at 8pm.
'The Winslow Boy' is considered by some to be Rattigan's finest work. Set just before the First World War the play tells the story of a real-life case of a boy expelled from the Royal Naval College at Osborne for allegedly having stolen a five shilling postal order from a fellow cadet. The boy's father, believing his son's innocence, fights for 'right to be done', in the process destroying his own health and wealth.
2011 was the centenary of Terence Rattigan's birth and saw an overdue revival of his work on stage, television and radio. 'The Winslow Boy' will guarantee its audience an evening of compelling drama.
The rest of February sees more drama with 'Melmoth The Wanderer' as well as 'The Love Tour' with Justin McGurk, 'Equus' from London Classic Theatre, comedy from William Caulfield and the legends of Irish music by The Fureys and Davey Arthur.
