Irvinestown's homegrown playwright Ted Maye brings his self-penned "Shenanigans in Brannigans" riotious farce to bring the house down during the Lady of the Lake Festival.

Performed in the Delaney Suite of Mahon's Hotel, it is the latest play by Ted who has written and directed plays for the Irvinestown community over the last eight years.

The two act play is "pure farce," said Ted, who wrote the piece over the course of three months.

It is being brought to the stage by Irvinestown Amateur Dramatic Society.

As well as writing and directing the play, Ted takes the part of Christie Brannigan.

Leanne McGahan plays Mrs Killbody and Paul Cassidy plays Shifty Flanagan. Even Joe Mahon is making a cameo appearance after a break of a few years. Newcomers to the group include Barry O'Sullivan, Jerome Carleton and Keith Maguire.

The group has been rehearsing over the last two months.

The plot centres on Mrs Killbody who has buried four husbands and is on the prowl for husband number five. Christy and Shifty are only two eligible bachelors left on the island of Ballyfibbin and they have to use any means possible to elude her advances.

"It was packed out last year. Normally we have to put on a third performance. It is very well received. We get people travelling from Omagh and Donegal to see the play," said Ted.

The play is being performed on Sunday, July 15 at 7.30pm and on Tuesday, July 17 at the same time at the Delaney Suite, Mahon's Hotel.

All proceeds go to charity.
