Fermanagh musicians did the county proud at the Ulster Fleadh held in Dungiven at the weekend.

Jamie Magee won the Under 12 Accordion competition for the second year in a row. There were 20 competitors in Jamie's competition. Jamie, who is from Enniskillen, is a brother of Sean Magee who has three all Ireland Medals for under 15 Fiddle Playing.

Indeed, local musicians appeared to dominate in the button accordion sections. Three musicians who were originally taught by Dinnie Leonard came home with first places at the Fleadh.

John McCann from Coa was crowned Ulster Champion in the Button Accordion in the 12-15 years section while Gary Curley from Boho also won in the same discipline in the 15-18 age group. Gary also came second in the newly composed tune section. And Michael Curran, from Fivemiletown was champion in the over 18 section in the button accordion.

Irvinestown Comhaltas music class also had many winners at the Ulster fleadh. The Irvinestown 12-15 ceili band became Ulster champions in a high standard competition with bands competing from the nine counties of Ulster.

Elizabeth Fee won two Ulster titles, 12-15 flute and 12-15 flute slow airs and was also placed second on piano. Maeve Mc Cann came first in 12-15 Whistling and Meabh Kennedy secured first place in 15-18 Fiddle Slow Airs and came second in 15-18 Miscelleaneous.

Edel Monaghan was placed second in 12-15 Miscelleaneous and Timothy Boomer second in U12 Whistling. Their teacher, Brenda Mc Cann was delighted with their success.

They all go on to represent Ulster and compete for an All Ireland title at the All Ireland fleadh in Cavan on August 18 and 19.
