THE countdown is on for Ballinamallard Festival which is due to kick off this Saturday. The week-long festivities will begin with a Fun Day and Strongman Competition held in the Ballinamallard Primary School grounds. For all budding Bristows and Blumenthals there will be a Ballinamallard Bake Off on Sunday -- a cupcake extravaganza that was well supported last year by brilliant bakers and salivating spectators alike.

This year’s sporting events will include the 10K Run/5K Fun Run or Walk, Clay Pigeon Shoot, Jengana Charity Cycle and a Pool competition.

Old family favourites, a table quiz and car treasure hunt will return during the week along with new events such as the Beetle Drive run by the Parent Teacher and Friends Association.

At 9pm on Wednesday a variation of the historic walk will take place in the form of site-specific entertainment including stories, poetry and drama. Ballinamallard’s Got Talent will be back for it’s second year on Friday, June 6 in the Archdale Hall. With its roaring success last year, it is sure to once again be a night to remember. All talents are welcome.

Saturday, June 7, will be the most exciting festival day with events such as the All Age Fancy Dress and Pet Show returning. The Duck Derby down Ballinamallard River, a sight not to be missed, will follow these events. The Festival Dance and barbecue will take place in the Football Club this year with live entertainment by Brenda Gunn.

Closing the festival on Sunday, June 8 is the Open Air Service in Fisher’s Car Park. Bringing your own picnic is encouraged - weather permitting of course!
