WORLD renowned European pipe band, ‘Crossed Swords’ will perform in the grounds of Enniskillen Castle next Thursday, August 28.

The Lunchtime Recital has been organised by Fermanagh Phoenix Group .

The band’s Pipe Major, David Johnston made contact with Fermanagh Phoenix at last year’s Walled City Tattoo where Crossed Swords performed for the first time in Northern Ireland.

The Band wished to perform in Fermanagh, Pipe Major Johnston’s home county and with help from Fermanagh District Council and Fermanagh Trust, a date was set to coincide with their appearance at the Tattoo this year.

Crossed Swords Pipe Band were formed in 2007 by General Major R.A.M.S. Melvin, and his personal piper, D. Moir.

In the meaning of international understanding, the Crossed Swords Pipe Band represents the idea of a unified Europe.

It currently includes musicians from Britain, Denmark, Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and also the United States of America.

Pipe Major D. Johnston, a graduated former pipe major of the British Army, originally from Fermanagh, is in charge of musical direction.

Thanks to his valuable expertise, he formed the band into a tattoo band that despite its short history already can look back on sucessful participation in internationally renowned military music events such as Spasskaya Bashnya in Moscaw 2010 and 2012 and the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2011 in Scotland.

The most current event has been the Spasskaya Bashnya in Moscow in September 2012.

The band has successfully performed there and has been invited again to participate in the next festival.

The biggest Highlights in 2013 were the Londonderry Walled City Tattoo in Northern-Ireland and the Avenches Military Tattoo in Switzerland.

The Crossed Swords Recital will also feature a performance by Highland Dancers from Fermanagh who will be taking part in the Walled City Tattoo this year from August 27 to August 30 in Ebrington Square, Londonderry.

The Tattoo is shaping up to be another great spectacle with new acts this year including The Imps mini motorbike display Team from London, The Maltese Scout Pipe Band, Starbugs Acrobats from Switzerland, over 200 dancers from all backgrounds including Irish, Highland and Contemporary, and as with any great Tattoo, the massed bands finale.

The Lunchtime Recital at Enniskillen Castle next Thursday will begin at 12 noon.
