COUNTY Sligo’s singing sensation, Tommy Fleming performs to a packed house at The Ardhowen on (tonight) Thursday, and the PM Big Band take us back to the swing era on Saturday, April 25.

TOMMY FLEMING IN CONCERT ‘The West’s Awake’ album brings the award-winning Irish singer, Tommy Fleming, back to his roots musically as he has included songs like ‘Sonny’, ‘The West’s Awake’ and ‘John O Dreams’.

His concert will also include his biggest hits from ‘Danny Boy’ to ‘Bright Blue Rose’ and of course ‘Hard Times’.

His unique talent has brought him worldwide recognition and he is now critically acclaimed to be one of the finest singers of his generation.

Delivered with electric emotion and supported by his world class band, Tommy Fleming In Concert tonight (Thursday) at 8pm will be a unique and emotional musical experience suitable for all ages.

THE PM BIG BAND IN CONCERT This County Armagh based Big Band features the classic line-up of trumpets, trombones and saxophones. The band’s programme, recreates the sound of the swing era, playing the music of famous big bands such as Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and Count Basie; the music of the ‘Great American Songbook’ and singers such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and Michael Buble; and swing interpretations of modern standards.

A WILDE WEEKEND From Friday, May 1, to Monday, May 4, the world’s first annual multi-arts festival celebrating Oscar Wilde, ‘A Wilde Weekend’, will take place at various venues across Enniskillen and Fermanagh including Castle Coole and Florence Court, Portora Royal School, the Masonic Hall, The Old Gaol within South West College, Forthill Park and The Ardhowen Theatre.

Oscar Wilde attended Portora Royal School for seven years (1864-71) and a highlight of the festival will be the gilding of Cole’s monument as ‘The Happy Prince’, a story inspired by Enniskillen and its reeded lakes. ‘Oscar Wilde at Home’, will see actors perform extracts from Wilde’s most popular texts ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan’ and ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’, Kabosh Theatre Company will be performing ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’, at the Old Gaol in South West College and Adrian Dunbar will be directing ‘The Decay of Lying’ in the Morning Room at Castle Coole.

A lecture by Will Self, ‘The Socialism of Man’s Soul’, on Friday opens a series of talks and discussions from notable writers, artists and commentators including Neil Bartlett, Eibhear Walshe, Toby Carson, Owen D Edwards, Eibhear Walshe, Jarlath Killeen and Heather White.

Also appearing at the festival will be some of the best talent in Northern Ireland, with NI actors, Ciaran McMenamin and Stanley Townsend, former Lyric Director David Grant, Paula McFertridge from Kabosh Theatre Company and Festival Associate sculptor Alan Milligan all taking part.

The Fable to Fantasy Film Events will be held at The Ardhowen featuring Tim Burton’s ‘Alice In Wonderland on Friday, May 1, at 6pm, Disney’s ‘Enchanted’ on Saturday, May 2, at 2pm, followed by ‘The Selfish Giant’ at 8pm. On Sunday, May 3, there will be a showing of the film ‘I Am Legend’ at 7pm and finally Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ on Monday, May 4, at 11am.

Also on Sunday, May 3, The Ardhowen will host two Talk and Discussion events; Alan Hollinghurst in conversation with Carlo Gebler at 2pm and renowned illustrator, Ralph Steadman: Live from his studio at 5pm.
