Coming up this week at The Ardhowen: an evening of fine country music in ‘A Night With The Stars’ tonight (Thursday), Beezneez Theatre Company present their latest comedy drama ‘Turning Mammy’ on Friday and Bluesman Matt Woosey performs in the Gallery Bar on Saturday at 9pm.

A NIGHT WITH THE STARS ‘A Night With The Stars’ features five of the hottest acts on the country music scene at the moment with legends, the ‘Offaly Rover’, John Hogan and Boxcar Brian supported by the hugely popular young guns; Ritchie Remo, Lee Matthews and John Garrity. Accompanied by a top class live band and featuring County Fermanagh’s funny man Gary Wilson as compere, this is sure to be a very entertaining evening on tonight (Thursday) at 8pm.

TURNING MAMMY Writer/Director John McDwyer describes his new play, ‘Turning Mammy’, as a comedy with a few serious bits. Set on the family farm, Mary is involved in a long term search for her baby which was adopted at birth while her sister, Martha, waits for neighbour, Ambrose’s Mammy to die so that she can finally marry the love of her life. That’s as simple as it gets, however, we soon discover dysfunctional people with deep secrets and passions. John McDwyer directs Eileen Murphy, Valerie Traynor and Peadar Conway in a play with as many laugh out loud set-ups as moments of melancholic sadness. ‘Turning Mammy’ tomorrow night at 8pm is guaranteed to be another Beezneez Theatre hit and has been receiving standing ovations from full houses on tour so far.

MATT WOOSEY IN CONCERT Contemporary blues, folk and rock singer songwriter Matt Woosey’s refreshing song writing and playing style has acoustic, roots-based music at it’s heart but is not limited to a particular genre. His self-penned songs are conveyed with an accomplished vocal delivery which has gained him praise from sources such as Paul Jones (BBC2), Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and a variety of respected publications in the UK and around the globe.

With his consistent touring of The UK and Europe as well as South African and Australian tours under his belt, Matt has expanded his fan base considerably in the last couple of years and has managed to make a big impact on a variety of different music scenes.

‘Wildest Dreams’ is Matt’s most recent studio album and is his seventh full length release since 2008. Ranging from ethereal folk to trippy vibes and from sun drenched West coast pop to full-on blues riffage, ‘Wildest Dreams’ takes Woosey fans and new listeners alike on a journey through the man’s soul and musical heritage.

Matt’s playing is often compared to Rory Gallagher’s improvisational flair and John Martyn’s heavy handed acoustic onslaughts. His stage presence has to be seen, with such a strong singing voice that he barely needs any amplification making every gig a unique and entertaining experience. Join Matt Woosey in The Ardhowen Gallery Bar on Saturday at 9pm.
