Ardhowen Theatre

It's the 16th Century, a time of cut throats, dangerous alliances and ambition, as 'Play On Words' Theatre Company presents 'Sister Queens', a story of the fight for the crown of England. Feel the power of Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, and the pain of her cousin, Mary Queen Of Scots, as both camps struggle for the throne. This acclaimed solo performance on Thursday 8th October at 8pm at the Ardhowen, shows the journey of these two remarkable women from childhood up to adulthood. You, the audience, are the respective Queen's subjects, sympathisers or possible enemies, but most of all witnesses to a turn of events of 16th Century England, that shaped the destiny of the throne. See the Royal court, the private chambers, the public processions and the prison, as you journey through this fascinating story with the cousins who called themselves Sister Queens.

Award Winning Tale

On the border between Wales and England, two brothers are brought up on their parents' rural Welsh farm. In a dramatically moving account of their lives, we see the struggle and the harsh realities and humour of farming life in a bygone age. With original music and live cello accompaniment this clever piece of theatre from AJTC Theatre Company on Friday 9th October, tells a complex story with great clarity and warmth. It's a tale of twin-ship, a love that sees the two young brothers grow up until they reach their forties. Bound together and yet driven apart by nature, they struggle to find meaning and purpose in their existence, a situation that is dominated by just one question. Which of them will inherit the farm?

The Three Tenors

The only established Tenors show in Ireland that consistently sells out in all the major venues comes to Ardhowen on Saturday 10th October at 8pm. Joining these three superb performers will be a guest soprano and a stunningly talented violinist in a show that covers great classical and popular songs.

John Scott, a regular soloist at the National Concert Hall in Dublin is probably the most powerful singer in Ireland with a voice that has been compared with the legendary Mario Lanza. David Martin, known on the concert circuit as Ireland's Golden Voice, trained in Italy and has performed both at the National Concert Hall and in Opera Houses all over Europe. Declan Kelly is another exciting performer with an amazing voice. He also has toured extensively in Europe and America and is hugely popular.

The show itself will feature a wide variety of both classical and popular songs including arias such as Nessun Dorma and other Pavorotti favourites as well as those of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Andre Bocelli, Irish classics and others.
