AN award-winning producer from Fermanagh has made a series of hard-hitting short films aimed at highlighting the vital role that police officers play in the community.

Brian J Falconer, who won a BAFTA last year for Boogaloo and Graham, has produced the three films as part of the Police Federation of Northern Ireland's #WeAreYou campaign.

Speaking to the Impartial Reporter ahead of the campaign's launch this afternoon at Stormont, Falconer said that the Federation had taken the decision to release the short films to highlight the lives of the officers it represents.

He said: “They follow police officers in their normal lives and their working lives, and the juxtaposition between the two. The films show viewers that police officers are a young group of people like themselves and the vital role they play in the community.”

A total of three films have been made by Falconer's Out of Orbit company, with Sam Taylor, of Birmingham-based video making company Tinker Taylor, acting as executive producer.

The first film, called We are Mothers, has been released today and is available to view online on YouTube via the #WeAreYou campaign website at: weareyou.org.uk

The description of the video, which is just over a minute long, on YouTube notes: “Police officers are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job. As mothers, they protect not only their children, but the public too.”

The second film in the series, called We are Granddaughters, will be made available to view online tomorrow, while the final film, We are Fathers, will be released on Thursday.

All three will then be shown in cinemas across Northern Ireland from this Friday (March 4).

Falconer said that the films were all shot in the Greater Belfast area over three days in December using the “top talent” in Northern Ireland, including Mark Garrett, Boogaloo and Graham's director of photography, and Ashleigh Jeffers, production designer on the Frankenstein Chronicles.

Post-production work was carried out at Yellowmoon in Holywood, county Down, one of Ireland's leading film and TV post-production  facilities. HBO's global smash, Game of Thrones, was edited at Yellowmoon.
