An Enniskillen woman whose parents were killed in the Enniskillen bombing has challenged Owen Carron as to why he has not returned to clear his name in Northern Ireland .
Mrs Margaret Veitch whose mother and father Agnes and William Mullan were murdered in the Enniskillen Poppy Day massacre along with nine others, with Ronnie Hill passing away many years later was responding following Owen Carron’s interview in last week’s Impartial Reporter.
She said: “I am sickened by what I have read. If Owen Carron is innocent then why has he remained on the run for almost 20 years? Why has he not sought to clear his name? The man was charged with possession of a firearm but he took advantage of that same weak criminal justice system and ran away, availing of safe haven by The Republic of Ireland State.”
Mrs Veitch added: “My parents and so many other innocents were murdered by PIRA terrorists, their lives were viewed dispensable by that organisation. Adding insult to injury, the UK Government has treated the innocent victims and survivors of terrorism with sheer contempt. Why are those who engaged in acts of terror so gutless? Where is their conviction to own and accept the consequences for the actions they committed in their supposed pursuance of freeing Ireland?”
Kenny Donaldson, Director of Services at Lisnaskea-based South East Fermanagh Foundation (which supports the innocent victims and survivors of terrorism across County Fermanagh and beyond) added: “Owen Carron is an extremely divisive figure in County Fermanagh.
“Many innocent victims and survivors of PIRA terrorism were and remain very hurt by the R.O.I State’s refusal to extradite him, instead choosing to offer him safe haven where he had been able to work as a teacher in County Leitrim, framing the minds of the next generation of our young people. We will watch with interest developments, many are asking; is this latest interview choreographed - is Owen Carron in possession of an OTR Assurance letter or has he received The Royal Prerogative of Mercy?”
