Schoolchildren attending both primary and second level schools have been writing articles about their thoughts on farming. One of the interesting classes at this year’s Show is to describe agriculture in Fermanagh in the year 2050. Sarah Foster from Kilskeery won first prize for her article illustrated by photographs in which she refers to how the world’s population will be expected to increase to 9.2 million meaning farmers will have to produce 70 per cent more food.
She discusses in her article, how robots will be used more to milk cows, driverless tractors will be developed and drones may be commonplace.
“The major part of farming will be done by machine meaning that less men will be needed. This will be expensive but in the long run, it will make farming easier and quicker,” she concludes.
